The Fraud Fighter’s Guide to Money 20/20
3 Can’t-Miss Conference Events for Fraud & Identity Professionals
Next week, the NeuroID team and I will be at the biggest fintech event of the year: Money 20/20. It’s one of the most important conferences we attend, as nearly the entire financial industry converges in Las Vegas to discuss the past year’s challenges and what’s on the horizon.
Because of the conference’s size, though, it’s sometimes hard to prioritize what’s really relevant throughout the week. My team and I have combed through the panels, presentations, and events on the docket for next week; here are our choices for three biggest sessions that every fraud and identity professional should mark on their calendars:
Event #1: Tuesday’s Stacked Fraud Session Lineup
Our top choice is on the last day, where the bulk of Money 20/20’s fraud-focused content is concentrated. There are quite a few gems on Tuesday, including big-name panels and timely presentations. Here are a few that caught my eye:
- The Next Wave in Fraud Prevention: Leveraging Device Signals (11:15-11:40, Convention Stage): This panel, featuring Tselmeg Shponko, Director of Fraud Platform & Integrity at SoFi; Marco Stotani, Head of Growth at GeoComply; Brad Craft, VP of Risk Operations at DraftKings; and Lauren Boeckle, Compliance and Operations Manager at Skillz, examines the use of alternative device signals, like geolocation tracking and device integrity assessments, for fraud prevention. We talk a lot about the importance of multi-layered fraud detection, so I’m excited to hear what this panel’s experts say about these alternative device signals’ role in a strong, comprehensive fraud stack.
- No Compromises: Scalability and Security for Digital Marketplaces (12:40-1:05, The Sentient Stage): In this panel, Lia Cao, Head of Embedded Finance & Solutions at J.P. Morgan; Jing Yang, VP of Global Payments at Expedia Group; and Pawan Modoni, Head of Partner Financial Operations at Walmart Ecommerce, break down the tug-of-war between meeting consumer expectations for seamless transactions and maintaining high security standards. This session heavily focuses on payments, with panelists sharing their strategies for implementing secure, seamless transaction processes.
- Forming Unexpected Alliances to Combat Scams (2:10-2:40, The Converge Stage): Here, Ari Medbord, Global Head of Policy at TRM Labs; Kristin Connors, Partner Manager at Meta; Kate Griffin, Director of Programs at Aspen Institute Financial Security Program, and Kate Prochaska, Managing Director of Regulatory Affairs at JPMorganChase, will discuss how organizations, even those across different industries, can work together to stop scams. Based on what we’ve heard at conferences earlier this year, scams will be a focal point of Money 20/20, and this session looks to take a new approach to the scam problems facing the industry.
With these sessions and more, much of Tuesday’s content is very relevant to fraud professionals. Money 20/20’s on-stage discussions often foreshadow the biggest topics that dominate the following year, so I’d recommend setting aside some time to check them out.
Event #2: Experian’s MoneyPot Takeover
On Monday from 3:00-4:00 P.M., Experian Chief Innovation Officer Kathleen Peters and NeuroID CEO Jack Alton will take the MoneyPot stage to talk about today’s biggest fraud trends in “Unleashing Innovation Through the Intersection of Data, Fraud, and AI Solutions”. Kathleen and Jack will dive into the biggest challenges facing U.S. businesses in 2024, including genAI, and how to solve them with innovative data usage and technology (including behavioral analytics).
For fraud professionals still ironing out their strategies to stop genAI-powered fraud, this session will give helpful guidance on how to create a modern, effective solution that’s ready for fraudsters’ evolving tools. There’s a chance to connect after the talk, too: stick around for Experian’s networking reception immediately following the session in the MoneyPot activation stage and bar.
Event #3: Fraud Fighters Social at Flight Club
On Tuesday from 8:00-10:00 P.M., NeuroID is hosting an exclusive event for fraud and risk professionals at Flight Club (inside The Venetian). Here, you can close out your Money 20/20 trip with food, drinks, and darts alongside your colleagues and industry counterparts (including yours truly).
This might be the event I’m most looking forward to in Las Vegas.
