3 Hot Takes with Nash Ali

On July 25th, Nash Ali, NeuroID’s Head of Operational Strategy, will sit down with fraud experts Sowmya Saiprasad, VP and Head of Client & Product Solutions for Visa Direct North America Money Movement Solutions, and Brian Russell, former SVP of Identity and Authentication at U.S. Bank, for our upcoming Seasonal Fraud Forecasting: Strategies for Year-Round Agile Detection webinar. This killer panel will discuss all their insights and experiences from the front lines of the fast-evolving world of fraud detection and prevention.

As a quick preview ahead of that webinar, we asked Nash for three of his hottest takes on current industry trends and transformations:

Q1. In your opinion, how will genAI-driven technologies redefine fraud prevention in the next five years?

I see that redefinition happening on two fronts. GenAI is already providing more sophisticated and increasingly automated tools to fraudsters allowing them to find vulnerabilities and use them to commit fraud in new ways that we are still wrapping our arms around. At the same time, the use of GenAI in fraud prevention, for example by enabling improved data analytics, machine learning and anomaly detection, is starting to redefine how fraud is identified and mitigated. So we are fast heading into an AI vs AI world.

Q2. What is the biggest shift you’ve seen take place in the fraud industry, across your 15 years of experience?

A very visible shift is in how fraud attacks are committed. The levels of sophistication we see today, for example with the use of Gen4 bots that are trained to behave like humans, or with the use of genAI assisted scams that are manifested with deep fakes or voice cloning, are unprecedented, and almost impossible to detect with legacy tools. It’s driven a parallel shift in how quickly enterprises, even those that have historically been very slow to adopt new technologies, are adding new tools such as behavioral analytics in their fraud stack to combat these new fraud vectors.

Q3. You’ve worked in many cutting-edge financial institutions. In your experience, what’s the secret sauce for driving successful innovation that gets through red tape of even the big FIs?

Honestly, it comes down to one simple secret sauce: DATA. Data driven evidence cuts through red tape and politics like nothing else; and most enterprises that I have worked in place a high value on products and services that can be tailored to their data. In my opinion, innovation that exhibits agility and adaptability to client data has the best chance of success and adoption.
